Calculate pixels from the final size

Multiply each dimension in inches by the intended pixels per inch: 5 × 300 = 1500 and 7 × 300 = 2100. For landscape orientation, the dimensions are 2100 × 1500. This is the artwork size before adding any printer-required bleed.

Understand resolution versus metadata

PPI describes image pixels per inch at a chosen output size. DPI commonly describes printer dots. Changing a resolution tag without changing the image data does not restore missing detail or make a blurred photo sharp. Inspect the exported image, not just its filename.

Check trim, bleed and safe space

Bleed extends artwork beyond the trim line; the safe area keeps important text inside it. Requirements vary by print provider and product. Ask for the provider’s specification before adding borders or placing text near an edge. Do not assume one bleed measurement fits every shop.

Inspect a real output

Open the final downloaded file and confirm its pixel dimensions. Check small text and the portrait at full size. Print one sample at actual size and confirm that no “fit to page” setting changes the intended dimensions.

Explain what your listing includes

State the actual file type and dimensions you provide. If you offer a PDF, inspect the page size and embedded image quality as well. Do not promise compatibility with every print service without testing the required specification.

Common questions

Is 1500 × 2100 always enough for a 5 × 7 print?

It is the 300 PPI pixel size for the trim dimensions. A printer may require additional bleed or a different file specification.
